Consolidation of Foundation Structures/Special Foundations

Micropiles

According to European Regulations, all piles with a diameter equal to and/or less than 300 millimeters are considered micropiles.

Micropiles are small-diameter piles that contain a structural element that allows loads to be transferred or deformations of foundations or soil to be limited. They can be performed using small equipment. The armor of the micropiles is made up of tubular or steel profiles and the filling material is made up of a cement mixture or grout.

Micropiles are generally used for:

· seismic adaptation,

· underfoundation of existing structures,

· foundation of new structures,

· containment work to allow earthwork excavations,

· improvement of the stability of slopes and embankments,

· anchoring of structures.

Anchor Tie Rods

By anchor rods we mean structural elements connected to the ground or rock which, in operation, are subjected to tensile stress. The technology is used for the stabilization of excavation support bulkheads, the stabilization of slopes, the reinforcement of foundation slabs subjected to floating phenomena.
The tie rods, with strands or bars, can be of the temporary or defined type.

Bored Piles

.

The category includes all types of simple or reinforced concrete piles, made dry, with bentonite or polymeric mud, may involve the use of a partial or total temporary lining tube, in bored piles the removal of material.
The pile is reinforced with a metal cage and then cast from the bottom upwards with suitable piping to avoid any segregation of the aggregate.

FDP poles

FDP Piles (Full Displacement Piles) are rotary-driven piles made on site in reinforced concrete conglomerate, with minimal soil removal. This technology exploits the principle of the "lateral displacement pile" and appears to be a valid alternative on the market to traditional bored piles or CFA piles. They are carried out by rotating and pushing a special tool into the subsoil which causes the progressive lateral movement of the soil rather than its removal.

By compacting the soil around the pole shaft, the geotechnical characteristics of the soil are improved, providing greater load capacity.

The use of perforations through FDP poles is particularly suitable within urban centers due to the low acoustic impact and in locations where vibrations to surrounding structures can lead to degradation of the structure. In addition to this, this type of construction involves the cancellation/reduction of disposal costs, ideal for work in contaminated areas.

CFA Poles

The CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) poles are a type of poles with partial removal of the soil: they are made by inserting a continuous helix with a spiral with a diameter equal to that of the pole to be built into the ground, through a combined rotation action and push. Once the desired depth is reached, superfluid concrete is pumped through the stem at sufficient pressure to open the bottom plug. At the same time as the concrete is pumped, the propeller is extracted at a speed compatible with the jet, so that the tool always remains partly embedded in the concrete. Once the ascent phase is completed and the propeller has been extracted, the reinforcement cage is lowered into the hole using a lifting winch. This solution has numerous advantages, including its great versatility as it is suitable for a wide range of terrains, both in the absence and presence of a water table, the absence of decompression of the soil, the absence of drilling mud, the absence of vibrations. and loud noises and high productivity.

MEGA type pressed-in poles

The MEGA Type Piles or also Press-infixed Piles, provide for the foundation consolidation of buildings that have suffered localized and/or differentiated settlements on the foundations. The MEGA pile is pushed into depth with the help of a contrasting hydraulic jack on the existing foundation, this is a technique for consolidating load-bearing foundations in both masonry and concrete. MEGA piles are tested already during the driving phase, by reading the pressure gauge which indicates the operating pressure during the entire driving phase. They are made with pressure-fitted steel tubes taking advantage of the load and contrast offered by the existing structure. They are widely used and allow lifting and preloading with important advantages for the damaged structure.

Nailed walls

Nailed walls are a soil reinforcement technique. Nailing is mainly used to support excavation faces and natural slopes. With this technique, composite structures are created that exploit the interaction between the soil and the collaborating inclusions.

The soil nailing technique consists in introducing reinforcements "nails" into the soil with the function of absorbing the stresses that the soil in natural conditions would not be able to withstand.

DSM (Deep Soil Mixing)

Deep soil mixing (DSM) is a technique in which a vertical earth barrier and/or foundation can be made without vibration. The existing soil is mixed underground with water and cement (building material) to build a water-resistant wall or foundation: the soil is broken up during drilling by a special rotary tool and mixed with the cement injected at low pressure during the rising of the tool. The result is called Soil Mix. The machine with which this technique is carried out allows the bedding of the soil to which water and cement are added to create a mortar that can be reinforced with steel.

Sub Horizontal Drains

Subhorizontal drains are drainage elements with a circular section of small diameter inserted in the body of a landslide slope, in the face of an excavation, and in all those situations in which the excess of water determines the decrease in the resistance characteristics of the soil. They consist of perforated tubes (possibly covered with TNT sock) which are placed in holes made with auger drills or with rotation equipment equipped with appropriate excavation tools. They can also be used in association with other drainage works or with consolidation and support works.
